African American Read-In

African American Read-In

Carrollton-Farmers Branch ISD held its annual African American Read-In on February 19th at Newman Smith High School.

Established as a celebration for Black History Month, the read-in brings the community together to celebrate the culture with literature and music. The community is invited to share a passage out loud from a book written by a Black author.

This year, McWhorter students participated in the African American Read-In. Together, in both English and Spanish, they read an excerpt from the book My Daddy is a Cowboy by Stephanie Seales. Alternating between languages, the McWhorter Coyotes demonstrated how one story can bring people together.

Coached by the campus literacy coaches, the students proudly represented McWhorter and showcased what it means to be a Coyote!
