National Assistant Principals Week is celebrated the week of April 6-10. It spotlights the role that Assistant Principals do on campus to serve students, staff and the school community.
McWhorter Elementary is thrilled to shine a spotlight on the leaders that make an impact everyday, Ms. Sanchez and Mr. Smith!
We extend a huge "Thank You!" to Ms. Sanchez and Mr. Smith for the tireless work they do to ensure that McWhorter is a place where students and staff thrive.
To learn more about these fearless leaders, we asked them some lighthearted questions.
1. What is one thing you are trying to teach yourself right now (it can be anything!)?
Ms. Sanchez: "I’m trying to learn how to grow vegetables."
Mr. Smith: "I’m working on improving my conversational Spanish."
2. If you could turn the entire school playground into one giant theme (like a forest, an ocean, or a candy land) what would you choose and why?

Ms. Sanchez: "I would pick the Enchanted Forest because you never know what adventures you will find."
Mr. Smith: "I would choose an ocean with a nice beach, because every person NEEDS to experience jumping in the water and sand between their toes."
3. What’s one piece of advice you’d give to your fifth-grade self?
Ms. Sanchez: "Don’t rush growing up. Always be kind! Have integrity. Surround yourself with people who lift you up and bring you joy."
Mr. Smith: "Keep a journal and jot down all your favorite ideas, funny jokes, and memorable moments…it’ll be fun to read it when you are older."
4. If you had a theme song that played every time you entered the office, what would it be?
Ms. Sanchez: "The lazy song - Bruno Mars or Roar -Katy Perry. Depends on the day"
Mr. Smith: "The intro to “2 x 4” (two by four) by Metallica."
5. Tell us one fun fact about you.
Ms. Sanchez: "I have a sock collection with funny sayings on them."
Mr. Smith: "My hometown is Warroad, Minnesota (6 miles from the Canadian border), and it’s one of the 2 coldest spots in the United States!"
